Valentino Rossi has officially joined the Petronas Yamaha SRT

After a long period of negotiations, MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has officially joined the Petronas Yamaha SRT racing team, starting from the 2021 season.

Despite continuing to compete on the Yamaha YZR-M1, this is Rossi’s first time transitioning to a satellite racing team, since he entered professional form in 2000 with the Honda racing team. However, he will still receive technical support from the factory racing team.

Fabio Quartararo will replace Rossi

Potential young driver Fabio Quartararo will replace Rossi in Yamaha’s official racing team. Accompanying Fabio will be the Spanish racer Maverick ViƱales.

After a quite successful 2019 season with 5th place, Fabio Quartararo was given a place by Yamaha in the Monster Energy factory racing team Yamaha MotoGP. This decision was officially announced earlier this year, making Rossi’s future uncertain. Some rumors have suggested that Rossi will officially retire after the end of the 2020 season.

The switch to Rossi’s satellite racing team

This switch requires agreement from the Japanese, Malaysian, and Italian parties. At the same time, these negotiations involve Rossi’s logistics team, which has supported him throughout his journey to join the highest modality MotoGP.

Recently, Rossi announced that the personnel will follow him on the Petronas Yamaha SRT team including team leader David Munoz, data technician Matteo Flamigni and coach Idalio Gavira. However, the group does not have the presence of friends, longtime mechanics with The Doctor Alex Briggs and Brent Stephens.

The switch to Rossi’s satellite racing team was not easy at all

The racer teammate who has won the MotoGP nine times in the upcoming season is also his student at VR46 academy, Franco Morbidelli. Recently, Morbidelli is also the highest-ranked racer at the San Marino race. Also at this race, Rossi finished 4th, after being overtaken by team driver Joan Mir of Team Suzuki Ecstar at the last corners.

Through 8 races of the MotoGP 2020 season, two riders of the Petronas Yamaha SRT satellite team, Quartararo and Morbidelli, have won 3 races. An overwhelming result with the performance of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP racing team.

This weekend, the MotoGP race continues with the race in Catalunya. This is also the 350th Rossi has appeared at the starting line. Statistics also show that he has also participated in a total of about 39% of the MotoGP races since 1949, and his number of races has risen to 10%, a record few riders can. break.
